Awards and Grants

There are four awards to be presented at ICONIP2006.  Two are awarded by the APNNA Governing Board and the two others are awarded by the ICONIP2006 Program Committee.

APNNA Awards

APNNA Outstanding Achievement Award

  • For outstanding contribution in neuro-computing and related areas.
  • The maximum number of person to be awarded each year is 1 person.
  • APNNA Governing Board Members may make nominations on or before September 3, 2006.
  • The 2006 APNNA Outstanding Achievement Award was presented by Prof. Soo-Young Lee to Prof. Lei  Xu for his outstanding work on Statistical Learning Theory.

APNNA Excellent Service Award

  • For excellent service to APNNA.
  • The maximum number of persons to be awarded each year is 2 persons.
  • Candidates should be APNNA members who are actively promoting and serving APNNA.
  • APNNA Governing Board Members may make nominations on or before September 3, 2006.
  • The 2006 APNNA Excellent Service Award was presented by Prof. Soo-Young Lee to Prof. Shiro Usui for his great contribution and service to APNNA.

ICONIP2006 Awards

ICONI2006 Best Paper Award

  • The Best Paper Award honors the author(s) of a paper of exceptional merit.
  • The Best Paper Award and HKD $3,000 was presented to Colin Molter
    (RIKEN Brain Science Institute),  Naoyuki Sato (RIKEN Brain Science Institute), Utku Salihoglu (Brussels University) and Yoko Yamaguchi (RIKEN Brain Science Institute) for the paper titled, "How reward can induce reverse replay of behavioral sequences in the hippocampus".

ICONIP2006 Best Student Paper Award by NIP-LR

  

The Best Student Paper Award honors the author(s) of a student paper of exceptional merit.  In ICONIP2006, this award is sponsored by Neural Information Processing-Letters and Reviews.
  • Candidates
    1. For best paper award, authors who register and are present in ICONIP2006.
    2. For student paper award, student authors of a student paper who register and are present in ICONIP2006. A student paper is defined as a paper with the first author being a registered student at an educational institution.
  • Procedure
    • Nomination will be made by ICONIP2006 Committee members .
    • Award decision will be made by the Awards Panel Members after the nomination's presentation at the ICONIP2006 conference.
    • Awards will be presented at the banquet.
  • The Best Student Paper Award and HKD $2,000 was presented to Takahiro KABE (Hosei University), Hiroyuki TORIKAI (Hosei University), and Toshimichi SAITO (Hosei University) for the  paper titled, "Synchronization via multiplex spike-trains in digital pulse-coupled networks".

ICONIP2006 Grants

ICONI2006 Student Travel Grant


A number of Student Travel Grants is available to student delegates with papers accepted for oral presentation at ICONIP2006.

Requirements:

    1. The applicant must be a full-time student at a higher education institution.
    2. The applicant must be the first author of the paper.
    3. The applicant must be registered to attend and present the paper at ICONIP2006.


Procedure:

    1. Email to the Organizing Chair, Prof. Manwai Mak <enmwmak@polyu.edu.hk> and cc to <iconip06@cse.cuhk.edu.hk> with the Subject: "Request for Student Travel Grants".
    2. Provide the following information in the email:
    1.     A valid current student ID card (scanned version is o.k.)
    2.     A letter from the supervisor with institution's letterhead/chop indicating the student's status (scanned version is o.k.)
    3.    Paper ID
    4.    Paper Title
    5.    Provide an estimated travel expense summary from the institution's city to Hong Kong


The grant will be given ONLY at the conference site to the designated student after the presentation.  The maximum possible amount for each grant will not exceed HKD $1,000.

The deadline to apply for the grant is July 31.  The notification will be out by August 21.
